Any student who plans to continue his or her education in any field at a university, college, or training school should consider making application for a scholarship, bursary, award or interest free loan.
 
An award may be in the form of money or a prize such as a book or trophy. Such an award is made on the basis of the students’ academic achievement, attitude, and/or contribution to the school and community.
 
A scholarship is a gift of money awarded on the basis of high academic achievement or other criteria as outlined by the donor.
 
A bursaryis awarded primarily on the basis of need and a satisfactory achievement or other criteria as outlined by the donor.

1.                Open the links to the PDF files:

2.                Copy or print details of Scholarship/Bursaries for which you are eligible.
 
3.                Read the DSA daily (in class, Career Center, or online). Take note of new and deleted Scholarship/Bursaries and any changes. 
 
4.                Attend at least one “Scholarship/Bursary Process” meeting. Dates and location will be announced.
 
5.                Applying for Scholarship/Bursaries takes a great deal of time and effort and requires you to assemble an application package of excellent quality.
 
 
SCHOLARSHIPS/BURSARIES
 
These scholarships are decided upon by a group of teachers, counselors and administrators at the school level
 
Due – February 11, 2010 (Lunch)
(Hand in at the theatre)
 
Include the following:
·       Standard Application Form
·       Checklist
·       Career Statement
·       Activities Resume
·       Letters of Reference (min. 2, prefer 3)
·       Expenses Budget
 
 
 
 
STEP 1: Look through the list Internal Scholarships/Bursaries and complete Standard Application Form (Use black ink-print clearly or complete and print on-line).
 
STEP 2: Complete the Internal Internal Scholarship/Bursary Application Checklist, applying only for those Scholarship/Bursaries for which you meet the criteria.
 
STEP 3: Submit the following in a 9X12 envelope do not seal and use no staples.
 
Note: Information on how to complete the Career Statement, Letters of Reference, Resumes and Budgets can be obtained at meetings or at the Career Centre.)
 
STEP 4:   Label the envelope "Internal Scholarships" and write First Name, Last Name, Pupil# on envelope.

1. External Standard Application “School Mails”:complete Standard Application Form, career statement, activities resume, letters of reference, expenses budget, report card and TVR in separate envelope and we’ll submit it to the organizations for you.
 
2.External Specific Application “School Mails”:complete the organization’s specific application form and place in a separate envelope and we’ll submit it to the organization for you. To see links to some of these applications look through Application Forms for Some Forms Not Found on Websites
 
3. A. External Specific ApplicationStudent Mails In”: note particular dates or see website and mail on your own, (please note differing deadline dates).
 
3. B.External Specific “Student Mail In”: not all are listed above, for a complete list students must register at www.studentscholarships.org  

 
 
STEP 1: Review all External Scholarships and take note of all Scholarships/Bursaries that you want to apply for.
 
STEP 2: Determine whether or not the scholarships you are applying for requires a StandardApplication Form or has its own Specific Application Form.
 
STEP 3: Prepare your Application Packages and make appropriate photocopies
 
STEP 4: For all External Standard Applications attach the following documents:
 
  • Career Statement (future goals and career objectives)
  • Activities Resume
  • Letters of Reference (3 suggested, 2 minimum). (Keep the originals and submit photocopies.
  • Expected Expenses: Budget
  • A copy of your TVR and your most recent Grade 12 Report Card
 
STEP 5:  You must submit all Externals in a separate 9 X 12 sealed envelope with your, FIRST NAME, LAST NAME, and the NAME OF SCHOLARSHIP/BURSARY on the front of each envelope. On top of your pile of alphabetically sorted envelopes attach an external checklist.
 
Note: for Student Mail In - Mail directly to donor to meet the deadline date. 

 

  • All awards will be held confidential until the evening of theScholarship/Awards night. 
  • If you are successful in attaining an award you must submit the following information to the Career Centre:
  • Scholarship/Bursary Recipient Information Sheet – Deadline Date: June 10 (it must be handed in, in order to process your award).
  • Thank you letter to the donor, plus a photocopy of ‘Thank You Letter” for Mrs. Auguste’s District Scholarship Book
  • The deadline to collect an award is two years from the end of September in the school year an award is won, unless otherwise stipulated.
